Schools

The Heritage Group, in partnership with guests staying with us, has built schools and teachers’ houses within the villages. In many places, this has improved attendance and grades of the children who previously walked more than eight kilometers to school, sometimes forced to turn around because of wild encounters with lions or elephants blocking their passage.  In addition, we also have a feeding program, providing children with lunch everyday.

We also support neighbouring schools by providing necessary building material like gutters and tanks to collect rainwater in water stressed areas.  We also stock school libraries to encourage reading.

A very close call to heart is our commitment to the girl-child education and orphans.  In many patriarchal traditional communities, a girl’s education is second to the male child.  Girls in some communities are married off when they reach puberty.  Orphans are often seen as a burden where there is little social welfare.  Working with the local authorities to identify these children, the Heritage Group believes in education for all.
